Other Names: Costmary, Alecost, Balsam herb, Bible leaf, or Mint geranium

Family: Asteraceae

Lifespan: Hardy perennial

Height: 2-3.5ft

Growing: An easily grown plant, it prefers to be sunny and warm in a dry soil but thrives under most conditions.

History: It has been grown for many centuries for its pleasant, slightly medicinal or balsamic smell. It was used in medieval times as a place marker in bibles. Used before hops to make beer.

Cosmetic Uses: Use in rinse water for hair and skin

Culinary Uses: Use in small amounts. Great with carrots, soups, peas and new potatoes.

Decorative Uses:

Household Uses: Use the aromatic leaves in potpourri and herb bags as it can intensify other herbs.
